TRAINING SESSIONS
 
Training sessions are held weekly, including during the vacation periods in May-June and November-December.


Days   :   Mondays and Wednesdays
Time   :   6:30pm to 9:00pm
Venue :   Sports and Recreation Centre outdoor Multi-Purpose Court (beside hockey courts/ squash courts).

During a typical session, there will be about 30 minutes of warming up. Warming up exercises usually comprise stretching and stamina building exercises. Warming up is very important and should never be neglected. A brief rest period follows the warm up exercises. Next, one or more of the following items are practised:

Hand Techniques: The emphasis is on proper execution of punches, blocks and strikes. It is important to know the names and applications of hand techniques. Names of hand techniques.

Kicking Techniques: The emphasis is usually on speed and accuracy although occasionally there is power training. There are 7 basic kicks comprising front snap kick, turning kick, side piercing kick, back piercing kick, front hooking kick, reverse hooking kick and downward kick. There will also be more advanced techniques such as combination kicks, double kicks and flying kicks. Training aids used include small and large hand-held targets, breakable boards and the kicking bag.

Pattern: Fundamental movements from 4-direction punch to Black Belt patterns. Advanced techniques include the knife pattern and pole pattern.

Sparring: Semi-free and free sparring is practiced. Sparring helps build confidence and self-control.

Self Defense: This is made up of 3-step, 1-step sparring as well as self-defense techniques against unarmed and armed opponents.

Destruction: Usually, this involves the toughening of hands and feet as well as practice in breaking wooden and plastic boards. Young students are strictly prohibited from destruction training.
